Change Horses is my first game to be published in Europe — but I’ve had nearly a dozen games on the market since 1982, when I began working full-time as a game inventor for Milton Bradley Company (MB) in the U.S.A. Later, I became a games consultant and independent inventor. Besides fine-tuning other people’s games, I mostly enjoy developing new ideas. “Change Horses” was especially fun because, as a player who doesn’t win that often, I was able to make a game where the player who “loses”, wins!
Games are a great love of mine in every aspect—inventing, playing, collecting (that's how I got my nickname, "The Big Game Hunter"), researching, and writing about them. Games reveal so much about our culture and history. I am especially interested in the historic links between American and European games and companies.
In 2005, I moved to Hamburg from the U.S. (I am a native New Yorker), to be with Sybille, who became my wife in December 2007. We now live in the little village of Eickeloh, north of Hanover, and have a translation service, doing mostly game rules. She is an avid player, and her ideas are vital in my game development process.
My other interests include writing, travel, mystery theater, films, singing anything from barbershop to opera, curling (the ice sport), and photography. With my photographs, Sybille and I have published calendars and written a photo guidebook of the Aller-Leine-Tal region where we live. I also collect jigsaw puzzles, mechanical puzzles, and “Americana”.
My extended biography and some of my articles appear on my website, www.thebiggamehunter.com
