Walther M. Gerdts
Hello, my friends call me “Mac”. In my civil life, I’m called Walther M. Gerdts and I work as political economist in Hamburg’s administration. I’ve been married to my wife Kathia since 2003, our son Johann Alexander was born in 2006.
In my gaming life, I’ve been fiddling about with ever new game ideas since my school days. Most of the time, those were strategy games with historic backgrounds that would last all night. In 2005, my first game Antike was published and became an instant hit (Deutscher Spiele Preis Bronze, International Gamers Award Finalist).
In 2006, Imperial followed, a game in which the players as international investors exert their influence on European politics on the dawn of World War I. Beside a placing at the Deutscher Spiele Preis and as a finalist of the International Gamers Award, Imperial could even get hold of a spot on the recommendation list for the “Spiel des Jahres”.
In 2007, Hamburgum, which is not so much about money and material belongings, but the right donations for the erection of Hamburg’s churches, was published. Hamburgum, too, was awarded a placing at the Deutscher Spiele Preis and as a finalist at the International Gamers Award.
All three games were developed and published in close collaboration with eggertspiele and pd-verlag and are also available as English editions at Rio Grande. I wish to express my heartfelt gratitude – not only to the publisher, but also to the countless test players in Germany and abroad and to all the other participants – for the fantastic and successful collaboration!
